Benefits Realisation Management (BRM) is a management approach to plan, realise, identify and measure the tangible and intangible benefits of Information Technology (IT). Users of an Enterprise Collaboration Systems (ECS) need to understand its value and what justifies the effort of making their knowledge available on ECS. Despite some high initial investment in the introduction of ECS, there is a lack of benefits definitions and benefit realisation strategies. Companies that do not detect and control the benefits of ECS and the associated socio-technological change may find it difficult to find arguments for future investment in such IT projects. Studies indicate that the potential benefits of IT remain unrivalled without a proven BRM process.
